TREK: 7th-8th grade

WELCOME TO TREK CLUB

The name Trek embodies our belief that the Christian walk is not a weekend or one night assignment, but a trek that continues throughout every hour of every day. Our Trek Program here at Spring Hill Baptist Church is in its very infancy. We are providing another option for those students who are entering 7th or 8th grade, who do not yet feel ready for Youth Group.

Our Trek Program will consist of those students who either will be:

  • Working their way through Trek Bible Studies but still being part of the T&T Program
  • Working their way through Trek Bible Studies but serving as a ‘Leader in Training’ (LIT).

A key feature of Trek, and of Awana, is Scripture memorization. We want students to commit Scripture to memory so that it is, as we read in Psalm 119:11closePsalm 119:11 11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you. (ESV)

, hidden in their hearts.

THE GOALS OF TREK

  • Encouraging students to be in the Word of God
  • Explaining salvation and encouraging students to trust Christ.
  • Encouraging students to think biblically.
  • Encouraging students to continue or begin to develop a biblical worldview.
  • Encouraging students to understand who they are in Christ and what a believer’s spiritual identity really means.
  • Instilling the confidence of Christ in students.
  • Developing curriculum studies based on relevant topics that teach a relationship with Christ and biblical thinking.
  • Developing curriculum that is activity-centered.
  • Training students to witness for Jesus Christ, using lifestyle and words.

TREK CHECK

All Trek students start with the Trek Check brochure. Trek Check has a fun look and feel and focuses on salvation.

TREK BIBLE STUDIES

The Trek Bible Studies are bound back-to-back in a magazine-style format. Each magazine includes two 12-lesson studies (a year’s worth of lessons). Students working toward completing their books must complete Bible memory requirements and some other activities at home. They will recite verses and get signed off on other activities at Awana. The goal for each Trek student is to complete 1 Trek Bible Study (2 lessons) per year. Cost for each of these books is $8.00 These Bible Studies, however, cannot be started until the Trek Check Brochure is completed first!

TREK TEE-SHIRT

A Trek Tee-Shirt is available for purchase immediately after registering your child. Cost for this item is $15.00 Trek students are to wear this shirt to every Awana Club Meeting unless they are a LIT.

THE FUTURE

Thankfully Trek is a flexible program so it can be integrated with our existing church youth and Awana programs. Trek though can be run separately from the other Awana clubs. Trek has a lot to offer as a complete program for Middle-School students and we are hoping that our Trek program will develop in to that complete program in years to come. Please keep it in your prayers.
